Clay Shooting

Clay shooting (also known as clay target shooting or clay pigeon shooting) is a shooting sport where participants use shotguns to break flying clay targets launched into the air or across the ground. It’s designed to simulate hunting scenarios in a controlled, sporting environment.

Using the Promatic Card System

Sporting Clays with the Promatic Card System offers a convenient and flexible way to enjoy your shooting experience using Promatic target machines, which are installed throughout all the courses.

How It Works:

  • When you arrive at the facility, you'll be issued a Promatic card, which is preloaded and ready to use.

  • This electronic card is used to activate the clay target machines at each station and keeps an accurate count of the number of targets you shoot.

  • To launch a target, simply set the card on the station’s control unit and press the button to release a clay.

  • Each time a target is thrown, the system automatically deducts it from your card balance, allowing you to pay only for what you shoot.

Course Setup:

  • All of the sporting clays courses are designed for a full round of 100 targets, spread across 12 to 18 stations, depending on the course.

  • However, you're not required to shoot the entire course. The Promatic system makes it easy to shoot as much or as little as you like, whether it's just a few stations or a full round.

Why Shooters Appreciate It:

  • The Promatic card system offers flexibility, perfect for both quick practice sessions and full days on the course.

  • It’s user-friendly, so even new shooters can get started with ease.

  • It eliminates the need for manual scorekeeping or additional staff at each station, giving you a seamless, self-paced experience.

Whether you're out for a relaxing few targets or a full competitive round, the Promatic card system makes your time on the course efficient, flexible, and enjoyable.

Woods Course

The Woods Sporting Clay course, as shown in the image, is a scenic and inviting outdoor range nestled among tall pine trees and lush greenery. The gravel pathway winds through a serene forest setting, leading participants from station to station. The course features 12 well-spaced stations, each outfitted with 4 clay target machines. These stations are thoughtfully arranged to provide easy, fun, and approachable targets, making this course ideal for beginners and families.

The wooden railings along the path offer safety and clear direction, while shaded shooting stands provide comfort for shooters. The natural surroundings not only create a peaceful atmosphere but also enhance the sporting experience, blending the excitement of clay shooting with the beauty of the outdoors.

red course

The Red Sporting Clays course, as depicted in the image, is set atop a wide, open hill that offers expansive views of the surrounding countryside. With a clear gravel path guiding shooters along gently rolling terrain, this course provides a spacious and invigorating outdoor shooting experience.

This course features 15 stations, each thoughtfully designed with moderately challenging competition-style targets. It strikes a perfect balance between skill-building and excitement, making it ideal for intermediate shooters or those looking to step up their game.

The open landscape allows for creative target presentations, including longer crossers, fast incomers, and varied angles that take full advantage of the natural elevation. Positioned as the first course at the top of the hill, the Red Course sets the tone for a rewarding day of sporting clays with its stunning views and stimulating target layouts.

White course

The White Sporting Clays course is located straight ahead at the top of the hill and offers a dynamic and exciting shooting experience. This course features 13 stations, each set up for super sporting targets with 3 machines per station. The targets on this course are challenging, designed to test shooters with a variety of angles, distances, and flight patterns that demand focus and precision.

A signature feature of the White Course is its use of well-known firetrucks, including one with an extended ladder as shown in the image. These firetrucks launch clays from elevated positions, allowing targets to fly further and higher, adding a dramatic vertical dimension to the shooting experience and increasing the difficulty level.

Set in a mix of open fields and scenic wooded surroundings, the White Course blends technical target presentations with unique shooting platforms, making it a favorite for experienced shooters seeking a memorable and engaging challenge.

dove field

The Dove Field, pictured here, is a versatile and open expanse surrounded by trees that serves as a multi-purpose area for a variety of clay and game shooting activities. Its spacious, grassy layout makes it ideal for hosting pheasant tower shoots, quail hunts, and FITASC practice parcours, depending on the season and event schedule.

During tower shoots, birds are released from elevated platforms, offering dramatic flight paths that simulate challenging upland hunting scenarios. For quail hunts, the field’s mix of open ground and bordering woodland creates the perfect setting for realistic and engaging gamebird experiences. When set up for FITASC, the field transforms into a dynamic parcours layout, giving shooters the chance to practice a wide variety of target presentations in a competition-style environment.

This adaptive use of space makes the Dove Field a vital and exciting part of the shooting grounds, offering something for every type of outdoor enthusiast throughout the year.

clay games

5-stand

The 5-Stand is a popular clay shooting game that offers a compact, exciting, and accessible way to enjoy the sport. At this facility, there are two 5-stands, each featuring 10 shooting bays and 8 target machines, making them well-suited for both new shooters and larger groups.

In a typical 5-stand setup, shooters take turns rotating through the bays, with each bay offering a different angle and presentation of clay targets. As the shooter moves from one bay to the next, the perspective on each target changes, providing a dynamic experience similar to what you'd find on a full sporting clays course—but without the need to travel between stations. This makes the 5-stand a convenient and social shooting option, especially for groups wanting to stay together.

The 5-stand format usually involves a pre-set menu of singles, report pairs, and true pairs, allowing shooters to test and improve a wide variety of shooting skills in a controlled, fast-paced environment. It's an ideal starting point for beginners and also a fun challenge for experienced shooters looking to warm up or compete in a tight, organized setting.

skeet

Skeet is a classic clay target shooting game that emphasizes timing, precision, and consistency. It’s played on a semi-circular field with eight shooting stations and two target-throwing houses: the High House and the Low House, located at opposite ends of the field.

Here's how the game works:

  • At each station, shooters aim at clay targets that are launched from the High and Low Houses.

  • The High House throws targets from 10 feet above ground, moving left to right across the field.

  • The Low House launches targets from about 3 feet above ground, moving right to left.

  • Shooters move in order from Station 1 to Station 7 along the arc, and finish at Station 8, which is directly between the houses.

  • At each station, shooters take a combination of single targets and doubles (two targets thrown simultaneously).

  • The flight path of the targets remains the same, but the shooter’s position changes, which alters the angle and challenge.

Skeet is a great game for developing consistent swing and lead techniques, and it's popular among both competitive and recreational shooters. The predictable target paths make it a good teaching tool for new shooters, while the demand for accuracy keeps it challenging for seasoned marksmen.

trap

Trap is a clay target shooting game that simulates the flight of upland game birds flushing away from the shooter. It's one of the most widely played shotgun sports and is known for its straightforward layout and fast-paced action.

How Trap is Played:

  • The game is played on a trap field, which has five shooting stations arranged in a shallow arc behind a trap house.

  • The trap house is a low bunker located 16 yards in front of the shooters. It contains a single machine that launches clay targets away from the shooters at varying angles.

  • Shooters take turns at each station, rotating after every five shots so everyone experiences a range of target angles.

  • The targets are thrown at a consistent height and speed, but the horizontal angle changes randomly, making each shot slightly unpredictable.

  • A standard round consists of 25 targets, with each shooter firing at 5 targets per station.

Why People Love Trap:

Trap is a great game for sharpening reaction time, focus, and accuracy. It's often the first competitive shotgun discipline many shooters try because it's easy to understand but tough to master. Its quick pace and structured format also make it ideal for both individual practice and organized competition.

make-a-break

Make-A-Break is a fast-paced, head-to-head clay shooting game that combines strategy, accuracy, and a bit of friendly competition. It’s designed to be fun and engaging for shooters of all skill levels, making it a popular side game at sporting clays events or shooting clubs.

How Make-A-Break Is Played:

  • The course typically features a tower or elevated platform with 8 to 10 target machines throwing clays in various directions and styles—crossers, incomers, outgoing, loopers, etc.

  • Each target is assigned a point value based on its difficulty. Easier targets are worth fewer points; harder ones are worth more.

  • Shooters take turns selecting and attempting targets, trying to accumulate the highest score in a round.

  • In head-to-head mode, two shooters compete at the same time, often alternating shots. The shooter with the highest score wins the match.

  • Shooters can strategically choose which targets to attempt based on their strengths, risk tolerance, and current score—adding a layer of tactics to the game.

Why Shooters Love It:

  • Make-A-Break offers a fun, competitive environment with quick rounds.

  • It’s accessible for beginners (with easier targets to build confidence) and still challenging for experienced shooters (with high-value, tough targets).

  • The point system and head-to-head format make it exciting for both participants and spectators.

  • It’s a great way to practice a variety of target types in a short amount of time.

Overall, Make-A-Break is an entertaining, skill-building game that adds variety and energy to any day on the range.
